WHITTINGTON FIELD + SPECTATOR ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

If you have driven by Whittington in the last few weeks, you may have noticed that we’re under renovation! Upgrades to the field, fences, gates, and brick are underway and are expected to be completed by the end of December. This allows for any weather delays or construction complications and includes ample time for the playing surface to be safely rooted prior to the spring season.

Dilworth Little League was able to move forward with this project thanks to our strong partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Park & Recreation, and we appreciate their financial contribution. However, we are funding a significant portion of the work, and our goal is to raise $40,000 to cover project costs. For a detailed description of the project, continue reading below. If you have any questions, please contact Chris Pineno at dysa_president@dilworthll.org

Please consider a year-end, tax-deductible donation to Dilworth Little League to help pay for the enhancement project at Whittington Field.

GRASS

The playing surface is being removed, laser-leveled, and regraded. This will enhance the player experience and improve many longstanding drainage issues. The entire field will be re-sodded to ensure a timely start to the spring season.

FENCES

The new spectator fence and netting not only enhances the ballpark appearance, but also improves spectator safety. A higher fence should provide better vehicle protection from foul balls.

The color of the new fencing and netting will be black, giving Whittington Field a sleek and modern look. It blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment while providing a clear view of the game for all spectators.

GATES

The renovation will maintain the same access points, but all gates will be replaced. The new gates will have proper functionality and improved safety and security.

BRICK

The brick adjacent to the playing field will undergo cleaning, repointing, and paint removal. This includes the first base wall and the areas near the tunnel entrance.
